HopgoodGanim Lawyers has appointed leading Intellectual Property, Technology and Cyber Security (IPTC) lawyer Michael Fredericks as a Consultant, bringing to the firm a rare combination of legal expertise and first-hand experience founding, advising and operating technology businesses throughout Australia.

Michael is a corporate, technology and intellectual property lawyer with more than 15 years' experience advising clients across the technology, corporate and capital markets sectors.

HopgoodGanim Lawyers Managing Partner Luke Mountford said Michael's appointment brings a valuable perspective to the firm's technology offering.

We are delighted to welcome Michael to the firm. His appointment brings a unique combination of legal expertise, commercial experience and entrepreneurial insight that will be of significant value to our clients and our IPTC practice."

Throughout his career, Michael has advised a wide range of technology companies, entrepreneurs, investors and emerging businesses on M&A transactions, capital raisings, strategic growth initiatives, technology transactions and intellectual property matters, and helping clients navigate complex legal and regulatory environments.

Michael also brings valuable first-hand business experience, having founded, grown and led technology businesses while holding senior executive and board roles across both early-stage and established companies.

"Michael's experience as a founder and executive means he understands the challenges of building, funding, scaling and operating technology businesses," Mr Mountford said.

Our clients are increasingly looking for advisers who understand not only the legal issues, but also the commercial considerations that shape business decisions. Michael's background enables him to bring both perspectives together for the benefit of our clients."

Michael currently holds non-executive board roles with Volerem, a digital payments and workflow automation platform, ARIS Detect, an AI-powered inspection and analytics technology company, and Lane Four, an app-based training platform founded and operated by elite athletes, maintaining close ties to the technology sector while continuing to advise clients on complex matters.

Michael joined HopgoodGanim's Brisbane-based IPTC team, led by Andrew Hynd, on 28 September.

"Michael's appointment adds a valuable dimension to our IPTC practice," Mr Mountford said.

"Combined with our team's expertise across technology, software, cloud, privacy and data matters, Michael's experience further enhances the practical, commercially focused advice we provide to clients and technology-driven businesses."

Michael has previously been recognised in Best Lawyers in Australia for technology law and in Doyle's Guide for his corporate law expertise.

"The Technology and Digital Economy sector continues to be an important area of focus for the firm, and Michael's appointment reflects our commitment to investing in expertise that supports the evolving needs of our clients," Mr Mountford said.

"We are delighted to welcome Michael to the firm and look forward to the contribution he will make to our clients, our people and our growing technology practice."
