Application FAQs

How should I submit my application?   

You can view our current vacancies and submit your application online for the relevant role. 

You will be required to submit your cover letter, resume and academic transcript (if applicable).  In your cover letter, please outline why you are applying for the position, why you think you would be a good fit with the firm, and give a brief summary of your background, experience and qualifications.

Please note that we only accept applications for our graduate program and vacation clerkships during specific recruitment periods.

Will I receive a response to my job application?

We will notify you of the outcome of your application. If you are shortlisted for the role, we will contact you personally to arrange an interview time.

Will I be expected to provide referees?

Yes, candidates are required to provide at least two referees who we can contact if you are shortlisted. It is preferable that at least one of these referees is or has been your direct manager or supervisor.

How can I prepare for my interview?

We suggest that you take the time to research the firm and the role you are interviewing for. You can find out more about the work we do and the clients we act for on our website. Our website also includes profiles of our senior legal practitioners. It's a good idea to find out who will be interviewing you and make sure you understand their experience and areas of practice.

On the day of your interview, please arrive on time and ensure you are well-presented.

How long will the recruitment process take before a decision is made?

The time the recruitment process takes can vary from one position to the next. We aim to keep the recruitment process as efficient as possible and will keep you informed at all stages of the process. As a general rule, we will usually make a decision within two weeks of interviewing for the position.

I work for a recruitment agency. Who can I contact?

HG works with a team of preferred recruitment agencies who have a thorough understanding of our corporate culture, and who provide quality candidates who fulfil our skill requirements.
