Sarah O'Brien-Smith

Sarah is a Partner in our leading Resources and Energy practice.

/ Experience

Sarah is the epitome of a mining lawyer, with exceptional generalist legal capability and deep sector knowledge. Her involvement across the project lifecycle gives her an important insight into the resources and energy market, which aids in providing first class advice to clients. 

She has a strong front end and back end capability, having a wealth of experience in litigious aspects of mining and infrastructure such as forfeiture and objection proceedings in the WA Warden’s Court and judicial review applications before the WA Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. Sarah's experience extends to involvement in international arbitrations relating to mining and infrastructure projects.

Sarah is active in furthering the legal profession and has recently been a Convenor of the Young Lawyers Committee of the Law Society of Western Australia and was Deputy Chair of National Young Lawyers Committee for the Law Council of Australia. She was also a member of the AMPLA Emerging Leaders Committee and Council of the Law Society of Western Australia, and sat on the University of Western Australia Law School Advisory Board and the board of the Subiaco Justice Centre Inc.
