Our Private Enterprise team works with entrepreneurs and privately-owned businesses of all sizes to help them protect and enhance their commercial strength. We understand the intricacies of different forms of business activity and will advise on the most suitable structure or strategy for each client, whether that involves an acquisition or divestment, or establishing a totally new corporate structure to help manage a significant business change.

In addition to having an in-depth understanding of the needs of entrepreneurs and private business owners, our team's knowledge of Australia’s business environment is sophisticated and comprehensive. We have experience working for clients in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, agribusiness, health and professional services. We make sure we gain a thorough understanding of each client's business, industry and priorities at the start of every relationship, so we are able to provide effective legal advice and commercial solutions from the very beginning.

A business succession crisis is looming in Australia. Baby boomers are approaching retirement age and for many, their business is their most valuable asset. All too often, however, they have no clear strategy for how to unlock the value of their business in retirement. Passing the business on to the next generation is no longer necessarily the norm, and divestment to third parties can be difficult where credit markets are tight and seem likely to remain that way for the foreseeable future.

Our series of business succession factsheets demysitfies some of the key issues that impact on business succession - including structuring, asset protection, tax, intellectual property, governance, compliance, expansion, acquisition and exit strategies.
