HG Alert: March Quarter CPI Figures Released - 28 Apr 2010

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has today released the Consumer Price Index figures for the March 2010 quarter.

The All Groups Index number for Brisbane is 176, an increase of 0.74 percent over the December 2009 quarter figure, which was 174.7. The March 2009 quarter number was 170.8, so the new figures represent an increase of 3.04 percent over the corresponding quarter for the previous year.

When comparing CPI increases in the capital cities, the percentage change (from the corresponding quarter in 2009) for Brisbane is greater than Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra, but less than Perth, Hobart and Darwin.

A detailed breakdown of CPI figures is available from the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ website.

Landlords may wish to check their leases to see whether a CPI review is due this quarter, and if so, apply the correct index number for that review. This is likely to apply to leases which are up for review in April, May and June.
