HG Alert: Important Information for Landlords: Current CPI figures just released - 28 Oct 2010

The Australian Bureau of Statistics yesterday released the Consumer Price Index figures for the September 2010 quarter.

Landlords may wish to:

  • Check their leases to see whether a CPI rent review is due this quarter; and
  • If a rent review is due, apply the correct index number for that review.

This CPI edition is likely to apply to leases which are up for rent review in October, November or December 2010.

Other CPI information

The All Groups Index number for Brisbane is currently 179.1, an increase of 1.01 percent (or 1.8 index points) over the June 2010 quarter, which was 177.3. The September 2009 quarter figure was 174.1, so the new figure represents an increase of 2.9 percent (or five index points) over the corresponding quarter for the previous year.

When comparing CPI increases for the capital cities, the percentage change (from the corresponding quarter in 2009) for Brisbane is less than Darwin, but higher than the other capital cities.

A detailed breakdown of CPI figures is available at the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.
