HG Alert: December Quarter CPI Figures Released - 27 Jan 2010

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has today released the Consumer Price Index figures for the December 2009 quarter.

The All Groups Index number for Brisbane is 174.7. This is an increase of 0.34 percent over the September 2009 quarter, which was 174.1. The December 2008 quarter number was 170.4, so the new figures represent an increase of 2.52 percent over the corresponding quarter for the previous year.

The CPI for Brisbane increased by the same percentage as that for Adelaide. With the exception of Darwin, where the CPI fell, the CPI for all other capital cities increased by greater percentages.

A detailed breakdown of CPI figures is available at the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.

Landlords may wish to check their leases to see whether a CPI review is due this quarter, and if so, apply the correct index number for that review.
