Andrew advises on a wide variety of commercial and corporate disputes, including contractual disputes, construction adjudications and court proceedings, consumer and financial services law, and disputes pursuant to the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and related corporate legislation.

He regularly appears as counsel on contested and uncontested applications in the Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts of Western Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, and has been involved in alternative dispute resolution procedures.

Prior to joining HopgoodGanim Lawyers, Andrew assisted on multi-jurisdictional banking and financial regulation disputes in the United Kingdom. Andrew also has significant experience advising on public liability, product liability and general insurance disputes.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Diploma of Arts (International Relations and Political Science) from the University of Western Australia and a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne.

Areas of Practice

  • Acting for an ASX-listed mining company in relation to a contractual dispute over the transfer of platinum mining tenements in South Africa.
  • Acting for an ASX-listed construction company on a variety of disputes with contractors and developers in the District and Supreme Court.
  • Acting and representing corporations and directors in matters relating to breaches of directors’ duties and fiduciary duties.
  • Acting and representing medium to large businesses in contractual disputes and breaches of the Australian Consumer Law. 
  • Acting and representing clients in relation to misleading and deceptive or fraudulent representations of financial products and investments.
  • Assisted in advising (and the successful defence of) several multi-jurisdictional product liability claims against an international manufacturer.
  • Advised and represented several national insurance companies on various construction and mining-based public liability claims, contribution proceedings and complex double insurance / indemnity issues.
  • Assisted on a multi-jurisdiction financial regulation matter (based in the UK) for an international financial services company, considering market manipulation and collusion of interest rate swaps (LIBOR) and foreign exchange markets.
  • Assisted on an internal review of a major UK-based, international news and media company, considering the company’s media and journalistic practices in preparation for an external review by the UK Metropolitan Police Service and a public judicial inquiry.
