Martin leads HopgoodGanim's Resources and Energy practice and has advised on some of Queensland's most significant mining and public infrastructure projects for both public and private sector organisations.

With more than 20 years’ experience, Martin has developed a reputation as one of the most effective and sought after energy and resources lawyers in Australia. He has been named a leading Australian Energy and Natural Resources lawyer in Chambers Asia-Pacific in 2012-2015, 2017 and 2018 and ranked in The International Who's Who of Oil & Gas Lawyers in both 2011 and 2012.

In 2013, 2018 and 2019, Martin was named as one of the Best Lawyers in Australia for oil and gas by the Australian Financial Review. Martin was also named a preeminent lawyer in Doyle's Guide to Queensland's Energy and Resources Lawyers in 2010 and 2012, and more recently named Leading by Doyle's Guide in 2017.

Martin is also a recommended lawyer in Best Lawyers International for 2013 2014, 2015 and 2018; having also been named as the 2015 Australian Lawyer of the Year for Oil & Gas by the same publication. Recently, Martin was named in Who's Who Legal: Australia 2017 for Energy, Natural Resources and Mining Law.

Martin is as much a part of the industry as he is an adviser to its participants. A founding member of the Australian Coal Seam Gas Council, Martin’s role with the Council saw him developing legislation, drafting submissions and negotiating with the Queensland Government, giving him the insight to approach legal matters with the 'bigger picture' in mind.

Martin is a former President of the Resources and Energy Law Association (AMPLA), a chair of the Queensland Law Society Mining and Resources Committee, and a member for the Queensland advisory board for AMEC (Association for Mining Exploration Companies).
