Luke has significant experience in business succession, structuring, mergers and acquisitions.  He represents a diverse client base comprised predominately of private and family owned businesses, agribusiness clients, indigenous businesses and high wealth individuals, throughout a range of industries and sectors.

Whether his expertise is required at the inception or acquisition of a business, throughout operational phases, or when readying the business for sale or intergenerational transfer, Luke finds the right solutions to achieve success.  He prides himself on being a trusted advisor to business owners who have a personal stake in the outcome of their decisions.

Luke has a particular interest in family business succession, and has assisted a number of family-owned business clients achieve successful intergenerational transfers of ownership and control. He is also a non-executive director of OneHarvest, an Australian, family-owned grower, processor and marketer of fresh produce.

Luke holds qualifications in Laws (Honours) from the Queensland University of Technology and was awarded the QUT University Medal for academic excellence.  He is the Chair of the QUT Law Founders Scholarship Committee, which administers scholarships that offer financial support to first-year disadvantaged law students so that they are given the opportunity to study law and reach their full potential.  

Luke is Recommended by Doyle's Guide to the Australian Legal Profession in Leading Commercial Lawyers - Queensland, 2016 and 2017, as well as Recommended in Doyle's Guide Leading Corporate Lawyers - Queensland 2017. Most recently, Luke was Recommended in Doyle's Guide to the Australian Legal Profession in Leading Health & Aged Care Lawyers - Queensland, 2017. 

Areas of Practice

  • Advising OneHarvest on the acquisition and operation of mango farming operations in Queensland and the Northern Territory, and the establishment of a strategic partnership to create baby leaf farming capability in Tasmania.
  • Advising Simon George & Sons on the $25 million acquisition of George’s Providores in NSW, and on the acquisition of “The Fresh Network” in Darwin.
  • Advising Carter & Spencer on the divestment of its seafood business, and the acquisition of Quality Fruits.
  • Advising the administrators of Super Butcher in relation to the sale of the Super Butcher chain of stores.
  • Advising the Wanless Group on the acquisition and sale of various waste transportation and logistics businesses throughout Australia, including the sale of the group’s commercial and industrial waste operations in Queensland to ToxFree for $85 million.
  • Advising Food Spectrum in relation to supply agreements with Fonterra and Parmalat.
  • Advising PLD Consulting and Flinders Group on their respective mergers with multi-national design and engineering consultancy firm Hyder in 2013 and 2014.
  • Advising financial planning firm Varria on the acquisition of a number of financial planning firms and client books, including Vangrove Financial, Gamma Group, Saville Financial Planning and Cameron Renshaw Investments.
  • Advising Associated Planners Financial Services (then a subsidiary of AXA) on the acquisition of a client book operated by Barry Gardner & Associates, and the subsequent licensing of the management rights to that book to one of its member firms.
  • Advising the Spinal Injuries Association in relation to the divestment of a healthcare products distribution business to Clifford Hallam Healthcare.
  • Advising Retire Australia on the acquisition of 14 retirement villages across Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia, valued in excess of $330 million including the Glen Group in New South Wales and the Manor Group in Queensland. 
  • Advising Record Holdings in relation to a US$15m investment by NYSE-listed Tyler Technologies, Inc – a leading provider of end-to-end information management solutions and services for local governments.
  • Advising the shareholders of Campbell Mining Services on the sale of CMS to ASX-listed Resource Equipment Limited.
