James is a trusted advisor with over 30 years experience in commercial property transactions, specialising in property leasing with expertise across all areas including shopping centre/retail, commercial, industrial and sport and recreation.

James also acts on behalf of high profile landlords, tenants and franchise chains and has extensive experience negotiating commercial property and leasing requirements in various jurisdictions throughout Australia and internationally.

For example, James currently acts for South Bank Corporation Brisbane, Auswide Bank, Stockwell Properties, The Coffee Club, Sekisui Australia and The Leda Group of Companies.

James was recommended in Doyle’s Guide to Leading Queensland Property and Real Estate Lawyers in 2015 and 2016, and has since been named Leading in Doyle's Guide to Leading Leasing Lawyers, Queensland - 2017.  

Areas of Practice

  • Advising Queensland Rugby League on the lease drafting for the redevelopment of Suncorp Stadium.
  • Advising the Brisbane Lions on various stadiums, club and other property leases.
  • Negotiating and finalising a large number of leases for major tenancies, including Woolworths, Coles, Kmart, Bi-Lo, Target, ALDI and most other major national retail chains.
  • Currently advising on the leasing for the Noosa Civic Shopping Centre, Ipswich Riverlink, Victoria Point and Big Top Maroochydore Shopping Centres.
  • Advising on the lease to Brisbane Airport Corporation over the Brisbane Airport.
  • Acting on behalf of a number of tenants and national franchise chains including Michael Hill Jeweller (Australia wide and also in New Zealand), Baskin Robbins and Stefan Hair Fashions.
