Ian has extensive litigation experience over the past 30 years, handling some of the country’s largest legal battles, including multi-million dollar claims on behalf of major international organisations.

Ian’s broad-ranging experience spans general corporate and commercial, contract, trade practices and competition, banking and finance, insolvency, intellectual property, energy and resources, property, insurance, building and construction, and administrative law, as well as long-standing expertise in a range of professional disciplinary jurisdictions acting both for regulators and for individuals.

Prior to his role at HopgoodGanim, Ian worked with ClarkeKann, was a 20 year partner at McCullough Robertson and a partner at Deacons (now Norton Rose Fullbright).

Ian has been a Council Member of the Queensland Law Society (QLS), a member of the QLS Insurance Professional Indemnity Claims Liaison Committee, an inaugural member of the QLS Ethics Committee and a member of the Ethics Committee of the Australian Red Cross Society (Queensland Division).  He is also Recommended in Doyles Guide to Leading Litigation & Dispute Resolution Lawyers - Brisbane, 2015.

  • Acting on behalf of the State of Queensland in a property dispute.
  • Acting on behalf of purchasers of a chicken processing business in $40 million claims for misleading or deceptive conduct.
  • Acting on behalf of the director of a listed public company in relation to claims for share interests valued at over $35 million.
  • Acting on behalf of the owner of various pharmacy  businesses in claims against Bankwest and an Australian pharmaceutical company.
  • Advising on acquisition of mining businesses based in PNG and Mongolia.
  • Advising directors of a major building company in relation to shareholder rights and directors’ duties.
  • Advising a southern beverage maker in relation to distribution rights.
  • Advising a tenderer in relation to a tender for supply of transport and logistics management services to government.
