Paul has over 30 years’ experience in banking and finance, insolvency and joint venture transactions.

Paul’s practice includes advising on commercial lending for banks and borrowing for corporate clients. He has extensive experience in structured property finance transactions, working closely with a number of leading financial institutions and property developers to design effective financial structures to fund significant property and commercial developments.

Paul also has particular expertise in the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 and the impact of personal property reform on businesses across Australia, from financiers to manufacturers, producers, suppliers, purchasers and users of goods and services across a variety of industries. He provides tailored advice to clients on how they can protect their interests, including the identification of security interests that should be registered on the PPS Register.

Paul is a member of the Banking and Financial Services Law Association and is recommended in Doyle’s Guide to Queensland Banking and Finance Lawyers, as well as named in the Financial Review - Best Lawyers in Australia - 2018, for Banking and Finance. 

Areas of Practice

  • Advising Arrow Energy subsidiary in the project finance provided to it and its partner (ERM) by a syndicate of six banks for the construction of the Braemar 2 gas-fired power station.
  • Acting for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to establish a master funding arrangement to make project finance available to a group of companies undertaking bio energy projects in the agricultural sector.
  • Advising Bandanna Energy on its funding participation in the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal.
  • Advising ASX-listed Straits Resources Group on its financial arrangements including cross-border commodity and debt finance arrangements.
  • Advising ASX-listed Norton Gold Fields Limited on its secured and unsecured debt facilities.
  • Advising Clarke Energy (Australia) Pty Ltd on equipment –based financing for the conduct of its power generation and management business.
  • Acting for Bank of China in documenting international trade finance transactions.
  • Advising BOS International (Australia) on the provision of a working capital facility to a registered managed investment scheme.
  • Advising Capital Finance Australia on restructuring and documentation for major cross-collateralised debt facilities for the owners of three international Brisbane Hotels, involving a security trust structure.
  • Advising Aveo (formerly FKP) Group on the syndicated funding of major development and working capital facilities.
