HopgoodGanim partner makes mark on Queensland’s development industry

15 September 2011

Brisbane planning and development lawyer Sarah Persijn has been appointed as the Chair of the Urban Development Institute of Australia's Queensland Planning and Planning Governance Committee.

The appointment follows her recent promotion to Partnership of HopgoodGanim, one of Queensland's largest law firms.

In her role as Chair, Sarah will work with committee members to make recommendations and solidify the UDIA's position on planning policies and processes in Queensland.

One of her first tasks is to look at the Institute's position on the Queensland Government's building revival actions, announced in June this year, to address the industry's current downturn.

Sarah says her goal in taking on this position is to influence planning and development practice in Queensland for the better.

"Because planners, developers and lawyers work with these policies every day, they have some great suggestions for ways to improve local planning for all parties involved. I'm excited about the opportunity to facilitate this process and make a positive contribution to planning policy in Queensland."

Sarah has been actively involved in the UDIA's Queensland branch since 2005, when she joined the Institute's Women in Development committee. She has been a member of the Natural Resources, Environment and Heritage committee since 2009, and was a member of the team organising the UDIA's National Congress in 2009.

Sarah was made a Partner of HopgoodGanim in July this year in recognition of her extensive experience and her strong commitment to providing excellent service and legal solutions to the firm's planning and development clients.

In addition to expertise in planning appeals and declaratory proceedings, Sarah advises her clients on the development of large shopping centres and master planned communities.

She was also recommended in the 2010 Doyle's Guide to Queensland Planning and Environment Lawyers.
