HopgoodGanim native title partner named in 2011 Doyle’s Guide to Leading Lawyers

18 August 2011

HopgoodGanim has again been named in the Doyle's Guide to Australia's leading native title firms, with Partner Dr. Jonathan Fulcher specifically named as a leading lawyer in this area of expertise.

Leading lawyers are identified as those who consistently draw the praise of both clients and peers.

Jonathan is a Partner of HopgoodGanim's Resources and Energy practice and has been ranked by Chambers Global as one of Australia's leading native title lawyers (Band 1) for the past five consecutive years.

Jonathan has extensive native title experience and advises on oil and gas transactions, infrastructure developments, joint venture arrangements, and asset and share sales and acquisitions across Australia and internationally. He has negotiated over 50 Indigenous Land Use Agreements, Right to Negotiate Agreements and Cultural Heritage Management Plans for both public and private sector clients.

Jonathan's qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (Hons), a PHD and Juris Doctor. He is an Adjunct Professor at Griffith University and his expertise in cultural heritage has recently been published with Halbury's Laws of Australia (all jurisdictions).

Resources booms in Queensland and Western Australia have resulted in a healthy level of activity within the field of native title, allowing this highly specialised area to integrate more closely with other practice groups in larger commercial firms.

Interestingly, the Doyle's Guide noted that there is a "significant gap and/or absence of recognised expertise within some of the top-tier and larger national firms".

The listings of best firms and lawyers are compiled on the back of extensive interviews with clients, peers and relevant industry bodies. The research is focused on Australian based clients and practitioners, and is compiled on an independent basis.

HopgoodGanim was named a leading Queensland firm for resources and energy, property, planning and environment, and mergers and acquisitions in the 2010 Doyle's Guide to the Australian Legal Profession. The firm was also named a recommended Queensland firm for intellectual property and construction law in 2010.
