The ClimateSmart 2050 policy pledge by the government in June 2007 was confirmed with the Clean Energy Act passing through the Queensland Parliament and receiving assent on 9 May 2008.
The legislation is designed to improve the efficiency and management of energy use, and the conservation of energy, by particular businesses and other activities.
