HG Alert: More Changes to WorkChoices - May 2007

In the wake of the release by the ALP of the IR policy it will take to the federal election later this year, on Friday 4 May 2007 the Howard Government announced details of a package of further reforms to the Work Choices legislation. While these will result in changes to the way in which the Workplace Relations Act is administered, the most significant changes are the introduction of a ‘no disadvantage’ type test, for some workers, in the enterprise bargaining sphere, coupled with a new assessment process for collective agreements and Australian Workplace Agreements. These new agreement-making arrangements took effect on Monday 7 May 2007 and will impact upon newly developed, and even previously approved, agreements lodged from that date.
