Rachael Murray

  SENIOR ASSOCIATE

A member of HopgoodGanim's Family Law practice since 2002, Rachael has a wide range of experience in all family law disputes ranging from parenting and children's issues to matrimonial and de facto property settlement matters.

Client education, mediation, collaboration and other non court based dispute resolution underpins Rachael’s management of family law matters. Rachael is trained in both collaborative law and mediation. Her innovative approach to the practice of family law means that she is able to engineer compromises in a less hostile environment and in the most cost effective manner possible.

Rachael engages her clients with integrity by putting herself in their shoes. Her personal commitment to her clients is to treat them with the dignity and respect that she would wish to be afforded should she find herself in a similar situation. Rachael’s conscientious, diligent and efficient approach results in the delivery of high quality legal advice for all family law matters with which she is involved.

In addition to practising family law, Rachael has authored a number of articles on changes to family law legislation, with a particular emphasis on parenting matters. In 2005, Rachael served as a member of the editorial committee for the publication 'A Women's Place: 100 Years of Queensland Women Lawyers'. In 2006, Rachael co-presented the paper 'You never like my mother anyway, so why do you want her money?' and assisted in updating a CCH chapter on companies and trusts.

Rachael is a current member of the Queensland Law Society's Equalising Opportunities in the Law Committee, the Youth Advocacy Centre’s Management Committee, Queensland Collaborative Law and HopgoodGanim's Collaborative Law Committee and international family law group. She also volunteers at the Women's Legal Service.

Educated at Griffith University, Rachael holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Politics and Public Policy). Rachael is admitted as a Solicitor of both the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.
