Freda is a Partner and Accredited Family Law Specialist and practices exclusively in the area of Family Law. Freda joined the firm in 1996 and initially drew experience from the firm’s property and corporate divisions before settling into family law.
Freda’s main areas of expertise relate to complex property disputes for separated couples involving, at times, complicated corporate and trust structures. She has a deep understanding of the intricacies involved when working with corporate and trust structures and believes in collaboration and building very strong foundations with clients at the outset of matters to really connect to the issues.
Freda is an exceptional listener and demonstrates her integrity through her open and approachable manner, her dedication to performing her job with professionalism and by providing clients with an honest and complete picture of the pros and cons of a particular approach, before they make any decision regarding their family law issue.
A sophisticated practitioner, Freda has represented a number of high profile individuals and has extensive experience in child-related matters. She is skilled in the art of litigation if a court-based resolution is the only available option but is also highly committed to negotiating and achieving settlement outcomes for clients where possible. Freda believes that success in the family law arena can be a difficult concept to grasp but her personal take on success is about finding solutions for her clients.
Freda has practised exclusively in family law for more than 13 years and now also leads the firm’s Collaborative Law practice, an approach which aims to offer parties a non-court dispute resolution alternative. Freda is also a founding member of the informal Brisbane group of law firms practising collaborative law and a committee member of Queensland Collaborative Law.
Freda was selected as a finalist for the 2009 Queensland Woman Lawyer of the Year award.
